US TAG to ISO/TC 69
Each country that has membership in ISO is represented by a national organization called a “member body”. Each member body has a mechanism for identifying issues and developing national consensus regarding the work items of each ISO/TC in which the country is a participating member. In the U.S., we call this mechanism the Technical Advisory Group (TAG), but other countries may refer it to as the U.S. National Committee (USNC). TAGs are accredited by ANSI, and must follow ANSI procedures, including the Model Operating Procedures for U.S. Technical Advisory Groups to ANSI for ISO Activities.
For each country, the primary purpose of the TAG (or USNC) is to develop and transmit to ISO, via their country’s national standards organization, their country’s position on activities and ballots of ISO/TC 69. TAG (or USNC) delegates are actively involved in the international negotiation and preparation of international standards.
In the U.S. the ANSI-Accredited U.S. TAG to ISO/TC 69 develops the U.S. positions on international standardization activities of ISO/TC 69 on Applications of Statistical Methods and administers ballots associated with ISO/TC 69. Delegates selected by the TAG actively participate in all activities of ISO/TC 69 including the development of ISO standards in quality terminology, quality systems, and quality technology. Participation in the ANSI-Accredited U.S. TAG to ISO/TC 69 provides an opportunity for representatives of all affected U.S. constituencies (industry, commerce, education, et al) to influence the development of international quality standards which have become a foundation of international trade.
